The Temple of Hatshepsut is considered a masterpiece of ancient architecture. It is a mortuary temple located on the west bank of the Nile river, near the Valley of the Kings, facing the city of Luxor. Built during the reign of Pharaoh Hatshepsut of the 18th Dynasty (1479-1458 BCE), the temple is dedicated to the sun god Amun, Hatshepsut’s father god Amun, and Hatshepsut herself.

The temple complex rises in three tiers from the desert floor to the cliffs of Deir el-Bahri. The terraces are connected by ramps adorned with reliefs depicting Hatshepsut’s Divine Birth and her successful military expedition to Punt, a trading partner of ancient Egypt.
