The Nubian Valley
The Nubian Valley isn’t exactly located in Aswan, but it refers to a historical region along the Nile River that stretched for 160 miles (250 km) south of Aswan, all the way to the Sudanese border. This valley was flooded in the 1960s by the construction of the Aswan High Dam, creating Lake Nasser.
The Nubian people have a rich and ancient culture, with a history dating back thousands of years. They were a powerful civilization that often rivaled the pharaohs of Egypt. Their homeland was strategically located at the crossroads of trade routes between Egypt and Africa, which contributed to their cultural and economic prosperity.
Unfortunately, the building of the Aswan High Dam displaced many Nubians from their ancestral lands. The Egyptian government relocated them to new settlements north of Aswan. However, many Nubians still hold strong ties to their culture and heritage.
