The Karnak Temple
The Karnak Temple Complex in Luxor has a truly fascinating building history, spanning over a whopping 2,000 years!
Early Construction (Middle Kingdom – 2000–1700 BCE): Construction began around 1970 BCE under the reign of Senusret I, during the Middle Kingdom. This early phase laid the foundation for the complex.
Peak Activity (New Kingdom – 1550–1069 BCE): Most of the grand structures we see today were built during the New Kingdom, when Thebes (Luxor) was the center of power. Pharaohs like Seti I and Ramses II contributed significantly, with the Temple of Amun-Ra being a major focus. This era is when Karnak became the most important religious complex in ancient Egypt.
